Requirements to Become an Egg Donor

Egg donation is a beautiful, selfless act that can help build families and change lives — but it takes a special kind of woman to qualify. For this reason, at International Surrogacy Center, we have several requirements to be an egg donor, all designed to ensure the best situation for everyone involved.

Only about 5% of applicants qualify because of our stringent screening process. If you are thinking about egg donation but have questions such as “How old do you have to be to be an egg donor?” or “How do you become an egg donor?” this page offers answers. Keep reading to find out more about the requirements to become an egg donor and figure out if it’s the right fit for you.

Health and Safety Requirements

One of the primary goals of the egg donation qualifications we’ve established is selecting individuals who are physically and mentally ready to participate. With that in mind, here are some key guidelines we follow:

  • Age: How old do you have to be to donate eggs? At International Surrogacy Center, we look for candidates in their twenties, which is typically the reproductive prime for women. This age group tends to have the best egg quality and availability.
  • Physical medical history: Ideal candidates will be in good physical health, which includes having regular monthly periods, not having any known reproductive issues and being non-smokers.
  • BMI: Another way we evaluate a candidate’s health picture is through her body mass index (BMI). We require our egg donors to have BMIs of 29 or lower in order to reduce risks for complications.
  • Emotional and mental medical history: Choosing to participate in egg donation requires major commitment, so we look for candidates who are psychologically healthy, so they’re up to giving the time and energy involved in our process.
  • Medication or drug use: Our egg donors cannot currently use psychoactive drugs, nor have a history of substance abuse. We also require that you do not use Depo-Provera, Mirena IUDs or implants for birth control.

How International Surrogacy Center Can Help You

Egg donation creates an incredible gift and opportunity for another family, but it’s also a serious responsibility. This is why International Surrogacy Center strives to find the best candidates for the process. In addition to egg donation, we also work with surrogates to help Intended Parents build their families. Whether through donation or surrogacy, we can provide assistance through every aspect of the journey.
